Quail

quail[1]

(I don’t know who took this photo – but it is a great shot of a Quail.)

Quail is a collective name for several genus of mid-sized birds in the pheasant family Phasianidae. New World quails (family Odontophoridae) and buttonquails (family Turnicidae) are not closely related but named for their similar appearance and behavior.

  1. That is a great shot. I wish that I had a lens like the one that took this photo.

  2. You're right, it's a great shot! I have a hand-painted mug produced by a company clled Quail - the name is on the bottom. Why didn't I think of that?

  4. For some reason I can't get the photo to come up. But quail is a great Q! I love seeing them out in the fields and look forward to spotting some of the chicks each spring.

  7. What pretty little birds they are! And so small, too - at least, ours are, compared to other 'game' birds. Only about six or seven inches long!

You say 'mid-sized', which makes me wonder if yours are bigger?
