Scooter

March 2004 – July 2010

There are just times when life sucks….like  last July for example. It started out well, then grew progressively worse.

Osteosarcoma is something every Retired Racing Greyhound owner fears. It is so common in the breed. In Scooter’s case it began with what we all thought was tendonitis in his right shoulder. Time proved us wrong and at only 6 years of age it claimed his life. I can’t even begin to describe how much he is missed. Broken hearts occur often at this house as we have had 19 greyhounds (among other pets) and cancer, of some form, has stolen just about everyone of them away from us.

Some might think it might get easier to deal with the loss when it happens over and over, but I can tell you first hand, it does not. Personally, I feel Scooters loss has been one of the hardest for me to deal with since the loss of my first Greygirl Blaze so many years ago.

Scooter now resides at the Rainbow Bridge with all of my other lost loves that I hope to see again one day.

  2. There are no words for times like these. I'm sorry you have suffered such great loss, but bless you for giving a wonderful home to 19 greyhounds...what an amazing journey it must have been to this point and what a fabulous reunion you will have one day!

  3. I am so sorry for your loss. Six is very young to travel on - we lost one at that age and a cat very unexpectedly a few months ago at three. You are so right - it never gets easier, only harder, but to give them release is the kindest, most generous thing we can do for them. I hope someone will do that for me one day. Chin up!

  4. I'm so sorry to hear about Scooter. What a handsome dog he was. I agree with you it never gets any easier. We have to rely on our memories and love for our deceased and that my friend will help you get past the initial hurt and void in your life. It never goes away but it does get easier to deal with as time goes on. Time is definitely a healer. I send all the aloha and sunshine I can :)

  5. I was thinking about your absence. And I am sorry to hear about Scooter. It never is easier when event like this happens. I was out of circulation; on and off, Twylah was also sick, but she is good as new now.

Not enough comforting words to ease the pain, but we can look at the bright side.

    Take care.

  6. When you didn't post for quite awhile, I worried whether something was wrong or whether you had gone on an extended vacation. I am so sorry to hear it was the former. It is so hard to lose someone you love, and our pets do become "someones". Focus on the good times you had with Scooter and my best wishes are with you.

  7. Oh, no ... I've been wondering, sweetie. How awful for you. :( Sending many many hugs across the Pond.

We just don't see the level of osteosarcoma in ex-racers that you do over there, but I lost my beloved Renie too young, to a different form of cancer and I do understand the grief and having to go missing for a while. It was months before I was able to go back to Greytalk.

Scooter was so lucky to have made his home with you and your other gorgeous dogs. So lucky. And you also, to have him. No more needs to be said, but I wish there was a magic wand to take away the pain.
