Met this guy a while back while in Florida. He was hanging out with this flock and by the looks of his coloring he was not at all deficient in carotenoid pigments. Flamingos are generally a light pink to a bright red and their coloring comes from rich carotenoid pigments resources found in the algae and crustaceans they eat.
I was thinking ‘shocking pink’ for the Flamingo coloring, and there is a bit of that in the birds plumage, however these are looking pretty healthy and were more to the red side of the color wheel than pink. Never the less, I won’t be arguing with this guy! He demanded an audience and I am stepping aside to give it to him.
‘Yep, dude…you da’ man!’

Love this - I never heat a chance to travel south, so I'm living vicariously through your pics! :)
ReplyDeleteI love those photos! I don't think I want to make that guy angry, either!
ReplyDeleteoh so purfectly shocking pink!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen a flamingo in person so to speak. These are fantastic shots of them. They are so fun to look at.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful birds! You did a great job with your pictures of them!
ReplyDeleteI love the doggies in your banner. :)
They are such cool looking birds. I think the top and bottom pictures are outstanding!
ReplyDeleteI think the mating season must be due and they're all flushed with the idea of future success!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back!
ReplyDeleteAnd, what a wonderful flamboyant return too - great photo's.
Best wishes

I have never taken a photo of a flamingo (not a very common bird around here...), but if I do I'll keep that first photo of yours in mind.
ReplyDeleteThe flamingos are wonderful - saw some at Blackpool Zoo over a year ago.
ReplyDeleteHe's a very handsome fellow, isn't he?
ReplyDeleteWe used to have a few flamingoes at the wild bird reserve near here - yes, they had a few exotics as well. But they were a sad and pallid pink. Not sure if it was entirely the diet, or living in England that did it!
