Meet…

Mandy!

Mandy’s is a retired racing greyhound who’s racing name was Hot Stuff Amanda. She retired a couple of months ago and has been in 4 foster homes. She is going to be 3 years old on January 1, 2011. She is a red fawn, but I do believe there is a bit of blue fawn going on, compared to my other red fawn greyhounds.

She kind of got set up improperly in some foster homes and was making quite the name for herself, having a little trouble here and there, being kind of scared and shy.

So…

she has moved in with us!  We like trouble here!Winking smile It always brings us the sweetest hounds ever.  We are hoping that Mandy will follow in her predecessors paw prints, as we think she is a pretty good girl already. She’s a little nervous, but is doing very well.

Renner: I wagged and wagged when she came, so happy to have another greyhound friend. After Scooter passed away it was 6 months of having to take care of my humans all by myself. I’m keeping an eye on her and teaching her the ropes!

A Greyhound’s Christmas Wish

For this week’s weekend reflection I am ‘reflecting’ back to a poem I wrote while running the Minnesota chapter of a Retired Racing Greyhound rescue group. To this day I see it used various places and thought… ‘hey, why not on my own blog?!?’

So here it is.

A Greyhound’s Christmas Wish

Dear Santa to you I make my wish,

This could be my very last Christmas list.

No time to be frivolous, I must hurry you see,

I’m no longer the best, they no longer want me.

I’ve heard of places where there are soft beds,

Sofas and pillows to lay your head,

Plenty of food and toys for play,

People who hug you night and day.

I’ve heard of the warmth the hugs can bring,

And car rides to get you wonderful things,

Large spaces to roam when you feel the need,

A place they will love me for being just me.

My wish, Dear Santa, I clearly state,

My hope as I sit closed tight in this crate,

To ask for myself I know is not right,

But please bring a family to love me tonight.

Renner: I am safe, I am happy, and I am very loved.

Safe and Happy Holidays to all!

My Living Will

Last night, my kids and I were sitting in the living room and I said to them,

“I never want to live in a vegetative state, dependent on some machine and fluids from a bottle.  If that ever happens, just pull the plug.”

They
got up, unplugged the Computer, and threw out my wine.
They are
SO on my shit list ...

Here We Go Again

Renner: Here we go again (please click here)!  I told Mom it is *her* fault we are getting another 10 inches of snow and that she had to put away all that silly ‘Let It Snow’ Christmas stuff she has laying around right *now*!

Fidget: Actually, I told her to do it before, but did she listen to us…NO! Now look what is happening. So finally last night, after hearing about the new snow storm coming, she finally listened and put away all the ‘Let It Snow’ items around the house. Might be too late for this storm, but hopefully will end the deluge of snow before it is up to the eaves of our house!

Lemme: What snow?

Fidget: Don’t pay Lemme any mind…if he had any mind he wouldn’t  know what to do with it any way.

Fidget: Go away kid, you’re bothering me!

Buried

A gray winter’s day out by my…

mailbox.

Usually this time of year, bright red glass balls dangle down the side of the support post by red velvet ribbons. Not a lot of dangling this year, they are pretty much in the deep freeze.

That would be me taking photos out of my car reflected in them (first photo).

Beware of the Doghouse

Due to the impending holidays I thought I should issue this public service announcement.  Besides it is kind of funny!

Sent to me by a friend – thank you, Amy!

Video For Dome Down

As I understand it the FOX newsteam had cameras set up for the game when the dome was cleared and left them running as they exited the building to capture what happened inside.

The Dome Is Down

We got about a foot and a half of snow yesterday and this was enough, along with the windy conditions and cold to collapse the Metrodome.

Below is a link to the story.

Snow falling through the damaged roof of the Minneapolis Metrodome (12 December 2010)

You can go to the site and click on the photos there to see the damage. You can check out the link below to learn a little more about the storm.

Getting ready to go out again and do some snow removal work here now that it has warmed up a bit to 2 degrees Fahrenheit.

This photo is out the front window and you can see our mailbox peeking out of the snow at the end of our driveway. It is early Sunday morning and you can see the snow has stopped and the sun is shinning. There is a string of red Christmas ornaments that hang down the side with a bow at the top. The red balls are pretty much buried.

It is a bit on the windy side as the flag blowing out to the right indicates.

Backyard

Coming up the stairs to the deck door.

No sitting on *this* deck for a while.

All in all this Minnesota winter will be a memorable one.

Half Way Through The Storm…

and things seem to be worsening somewhat. We decided to do a pass at things because people were coming over. Yes we Minnesotans are die-hards and don’t let too much stop us, ok perhaps slow us down a bit, but rarely *stop* us.  While Mr. Spacial ran the snow blower I was shoveling (and taking a couple of pictures because I am obsessive when it comes to photos). We have a pretty long, wide drive way at our house so it it takes a while to do it all.  My hands got cold from taking photos so I went inside and put mittens *under* my mittens, then was good to go  and got back to shoveling.

YES I did shovel out Renner’s potty area as much as I could. Made sure the gates opened and so on. Later we will take the snow blower back there and run it around a bit to make more room for him.

I also shoveled the garage aprons, walks and porch *3* times before I went in, here are photos of our front porch.

I was too tired to shovel it for a fourth time and I am sure it is much worse again by now.

Not the worst snow storm we have ever seen but the worst one we’ve had for sometime.

We will be out again tomorrow when the snow stops (hopefully it will be done by then)!

Today In Blaine–My Backyard

In short, it is cold, snowy and blowy.  Renner does not appreciate Mother Nature messing up his bathroom!

This video was taken at about 11:00 am this morning and the snow is supposed to continue falling until midnight. We are anticipating a foot and a half of snow if not more. It looks like about a foot has fallen out there already, but I haven’t gone out to measure, so this is just a guess.

Inside the fireplace is on and we are thinking about having to remove all of this from our walks and driveway. However, there is no sign of stopping and with the wind and dropping temps we will be looking at about –30 degree Fahrenheit windchills by this evening. Meanwhile Renner is a asking that we at least shovel out his potty area. Ya’ gotta’ do what ya’ gotta’ do! Smile

Stay warm!

Reflections….

This is Lemme. I don’t know exactly what he is reflecting on, but he looks as if he is in deep thought about something. There is a glint of something in his eye, perhaps it will give us a clue.

(Renner is in the background taking a break…pretty much the norm for him.)

Guess not….  Winking smile

Snow-hound? Naw

Short but sweet, Renner makes a dash around the yard.

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAA cardinal all puffed up to keep warm on the cold snowy day.

SONY DSCI also caught a photo of this guy just crossing the road by our house. We see a lot more females than males usually. However, lately we have been seeing a lot of white tailed deer wandering around including bucks.

Going to See Santa

Little Guy: “It is a special day for me as I am going to see Santa today.”

“I just have to find him first….”

“Nope, not in there!”

“”Well…maybe the next floor.”

“Excuse me please peoples, I am trying to find Santa!”

“Still looking!!”

“Maybe here?”

“Oh geez, still not him!”

“I didn’t know finding Santa would be so tiring!”

“Wait…Santaland? Now we’re talking!”

“Whoa…a few weirdoes are living in Santaland.”

“We better be careful!”

“Hey Guys, I still don’t see Santa, just big candy and little people with pointed shoes!”

“I don’t know…maybe I don’t want to meet this Santa guy….”

“Wait…you say he has been expecting me and wants to see me now? How did he even know I was coming?”

“Meet Santa, we are BFFs now”

“We talked over the state of the world, politics and the like but then it was time for me to go. I had places to be you know!”

“A quick high 5 for da’ man and I was moving on to the cookie case!

“It was a tough job, but it had to be done!”
