Vinni. Gone but always in my heart.

Check out this snappy leather Vest. I wore it one year on Christmas eve. OH and then there is the rose Vine around my neck.

Monochrome Sharpening Wheel

Again a photo from out at an apple orchard in Afton, Minnesota. I do believe this piece of equipment has seen a lot of history.

Not So Bad

December 2009 Snow Storm 005

Tuesday and Wednesday we were issued a winter storm warning and possible blizzard warning. Though we prepared to get a good whopping it was no where near as bad as it could have been right in our area. We received about 4 or 5 inches of snow Tuesday and Wednesday with the winds picking up on Wednesday. The worst of it, I think, were that the temps have dropped so dramatically from where we were in November.

I am currently looking at the thermometer and it is telling me it is -2 degrees (Fahrenheit) right now at 11:30 am. and to expect a high of about 6 degrees. Okay, I have to admit that living in Minnesota, the temps could be much worse as well. We were just so spoiled here by such a warm November this year that I think a lot of us here became a little bit complacent. Well no more! Winter is now in full swing here in Minnesota and as it should be for the Christmas Holidays.

An Amazing Morning

I was excited to see the big guy land and hang around as long as he did. He is a Pileated Woodpecker and though we see them in the area from time to time, usually their stay is too fleeting to catch with my camera.

This morning the camera was at hand and he stuck around long enough for me to get a few shots through the window.

He was not interested in drilling holes in this tree but wanted to drink from a fountain in our yard. The fountain runs all year, though it does freeze in the winter there is always a trickle running no matter the temperature for the winter birds to drink from.

Another very nice happening this morning was seeing the old (though not all that old) and the new coming together.

Yes, they are becoming friends quite quickly. It was good to see Fidget and Lemme sleeping together. It was the first time and at first I thought they were in a rowel again, but then noticed no one was moving and they’d fallen asleep together.

The camera woke Lemme up and he changed positions, but didn’t venture off from his new buddy, Fidget.

Right now, as I am writing, Lemme has spread himself across my arms and Fidget is fast approaching, probably looking for his new brother.

The bliss of harmony at last. It is that time of year isn’t it? Peace on Earth and goodwill to all.

Weekend Reflections

“Can I see me now??

DSC00191

This is Lemme, our new kitty, getting the closest view of his reflection that is possible.

DSC00190

Lemme is a 7 month old medium hair cat with a sable coat and deep yellow eyes. He has been here for about a week and a half. The first week he had to remain in isolation due to an eye infection and respiratory problem. After getting into the vet, getting some medications for him he is all better. The vet gave the okay to allow him to socialize with our other kitty Fidget so the last few days have been pretty wild around here with going through the motion of slow introduction to allow everyone to adapt to each other in the best possible way.

So far it is actually a lot of wrestling matches..no hissing or yowling, just knock down, drag out, wrestling. I *think* they are mostly playing, but it seems to get a little rough for my comfort zone from time to time and I return the boys to their separate corners for a time out. I feel a bit like a wrestling referee. We have had a lot of cats and dogs and know this will just take some time and patience. They are really doing pretty well working things our so far.

More on this later, but for now you should hop on over to James’s place for more Weekly Reflections!

Into Each Life A Little Snow Must Fall

Well at least here in Minnesota. Granted it wasn’t much and will probably be gone by afternoon but it’s just the beginning of a snowy Minnesota winter. The weather here has been mild throughout November and now on into December we are just starting to see the temps beginning to cool down.

Winter is upon us and the ever vigilant Greyhound remains waiting to offer a resting place to the critters who scurry and flutter about in order to survive until the season of warmth and renewal returns.

Beebe

Cream is True Colors Thursday color of the week. Our lovely Beebe is gone but most certainly not forgotten. She was a lovely Cream colored retired racing Greyhound that was such a beautiful girl.

She came home with me one day at the age of 9 and had a good many medical issues. Beebe stayed with us until she passed away at the age of 13. I don’t often see too many greyhounds the light Cream color of this little sweetheart.
